Stockholm. June 18–21. The biggest Hyrox race on the planet.
While athletes across Europe are obsessing over SkiErg pacing, sled weights, and how to survive the Wall Balls without dying, there's one variable almost nobody is talking about: what's on their feet.
Let's change that.

The Cushioned Shoe Myth in Functional Fitness
Conventional wisdom says more cushioning equals more protection. More protection equals better performance. Except the science doesn't back this up — especially not for a race that demands 8km of running AND 8 functional stations that require you to push, pull, carry, and stabilise under load.
Thick-soled shoes muffle the proprioceptive signals your feet send to your brain. That feedback loop — ground feel, pressure, angle — is what allows your body to self-correct mid-movement. Kill the signal, and you force your ankles, knees, and hips to work harder to compensate. That's not protection. That's energy wasted.
In a Hyrox race, you cannot afford wasted energy.
What Actually Happens to Your Feet in a Hyrox Race
Kilometre 1: You feel great. Any shoe works.
Kilometre 4: Your form starts to slip. Fatigue sets in. Ground contact quality matters more.
Kilometre 7: You're surviving on neuromuscular memory. Your feet are making micro-corrections thousands of times per minute.
At that point, the athlete who has been training with a strong, mobile, properly loaded foot has a significant advantage over the one who's been cushioning their way through training. The foot is a shock absorber, a force transmitter, and a sensor all in one. Train it that way.
What Minimalist Training Shoes Actually Do
Zero-drop, wide toe box, thin sole. That's the formula. Here's what it gives you:
Zero drop keeps your spine neutral and your posterior chain engaged. No artificial heel elevation means your glutes and hamstrings fire the way they're supposed to during running and loaded carries.
Wide anatomical toe box lets your toes splay naturally. That splay is where balance and stability actually come from. Cramped toes = compromised balance = wobble on the Wall Balls, instability on the Farmer's Carry.
Thin, flexible sole restores ground feel. Your foot communicates with the floor in real time. That's not a feature — it's the entire point.

The Stockholm Strategy Nobody Is Talking About
Elite Hyrox athletes who've made the switch to minimalist training shoes don't do it for race day alone. They do it because the transition builds something over time. Stronger intrinsic foot muscles. Better proprioception. More efficient running mechanics. These adaptations don't happen overnight — but they compound.
If you're heading to Stockholm, your shoe choice for this race is already made. But if you're looking at the rest of the 2026 season — or preparing for your first Hyrox — now is exactly the right moment to start training your feet.
Start slow. Alternate sessions. Let your feet build the strength they were always capable of. Six to eight weeks in, you'll notice it: better stability on the stations, cleaner running gait, less fatigue in the final 2km.
Made for Exactly This
At The Nude Foot, we built our shoes for people who train hard and care about moving well. Zero drop. Wide toe box. Ultra-flexible sole. Made in Spain. Designed for the athlete who wants to perform without compromise — and look good doing it.
Whether it's your first Hyrox or your tenth, your feet deserve to be part of the training plan.
